Brigg Town Business Partnership will again be hosting a Tree of Light over the Christmas period.

The tree of light, or Remembrance tree, is part of Brigg’s Christmas campaign, to remember and hold in our hearts all thouse we have lost, not only through the year, but throughout our lives. In 2016 the tree proudly stood in Chapel Court (just off the Old Courts car park), and was lit from Friday, December 4th 2016 until Wednesday 6th January 2017.

The Tree of Lights is a symbol of hope and comfort for the many people who find Christmas a sad and lonely time. It provides an opportunity for all members of the community to place a memory card on the tree in remembrance of departed loved ones.

In November 2016, Fr Owain Mitchell conducted the opening service allowing people an opportunity to reflect on what can be a difficult time for people who are bereaved, lonely or ill. The concluding service was held on Friday 6th  January 2017 at 4pm and although being a wet evening, around the service was remarkably well attended.  Father Owain once again conducted a moving and reflective service and the names of individuals in the Remembrance Book were read out.

The Tree of Light, not only shining as a beacon of hope, also raised an amazing £1,800, far exceeding all expectations. All monies raised were donated to the Carers’ Support Centre in Brigg they touch the lives of many local individuals and families through difficult times and beyond and to the Congenital Myotonic Dystrophy Fight, a charity run by Rosa in Brigg.  This charity helps children suffering from a serious muscle-wasting condition and supports local families.
